LGBT Social Events
The LGBT organises a range of social events throughout the academic year; full details can be found on the Events page. Our aim is to make all our social events fun and inclusive, and bringing along non-LGBT friends is absolutely fine as long as everyone respects the confidential nature of LGBT for many members. Please contact us if you have any feedback or ideas for events (or want our help organising or promoting an event for LGBT students). While we've listed most of what we think will interest LGBT students in Nottingham, check out Healthy Gay Nottingham's Gay Guide for a full list of bars outside of the city centre, support groups and more.
The Nottingham Gay Scene
Nottingham has several gay night venues, which many of you will no doubt become familiar with. Going out on the scene can be an opportunity for fun, freedom of expression, and meeting new people. It can also be very daunting, can make you feel you have to conform to certain stereotypes, or just not be for you. To help you get familiar with the scene and make up your own mind we organise several 'scene crawls' throughout the year, including one at the beginning of the Autumn term.
The bars and NG1 (a club) are all located within the same area of town but this doesn't particularly form a 'gay village', and we recommend you take the same level of precautions in terms of personal safety as you would anywhere else. If you are returning home late it's always best to travel in a group, and licensed black cabs are generally safer than minicabs.

NG1
-
Nottingham's only dedicated gay nightclub, with two dancefloors (main one downstairs, second one upstairs) and four bars (including 'Soba', the chillout area with plenty of seating, which is really quite nice). Open Friday (£3 before 11pm, £5 after) until 4am, Saturday (£4 before 11pm, £7 after) until 4am, and Sunday () until 2am. Fridays and Saturdays tend to be the busiest nights.
76-80 Lower Parliament Street; telephone (0115) 958 8440; website: http://www.ng1club.co.uk/.
Poptastic at NG1
-
One of Manchester's finest gay clubs comes to Nottingham on the last Friday of every month, with cheese downstairs and Indie upstairs. Comfortably the busiest night on the scene each month. This is the night where you'll find most of the LGBT flocking towards NG1... be expected to see a lot of faces you know and to dance till you drop! 9.30pm - 3am, £4 before 11pm and £6 afterwards.
Contact details as above; website: http://www.poptastic.co.uk/.
@d2
-
Known as AD2, this bar is usually busiest on NG1 nights, being located next door to NG1. The "trendiest" gay bar in Nottingham, with a separate seating area towards the back and a small dancefloor near the bar. @d2 hosts regular cabaret nights on Tuesdays and Sundays. Open late all week except Monday, when it is closed all day.
74 Lower Parliament Street; telephone (0115) 950 2727.
The Lord Roberts
-
The Lord Roberts describes itself as a 'mixed/straight friendly' pub and tends to have a slightly older style and clientele. Open normal pub hours, and serves food between 11.45am- 2.30pm.
-
Broad Street; telephone (0115) 941 4886.
Pink
-
Located on the corner of Heathcoat Street, Pink, which opened last year, is not always the busiest bar on the scene but has a large dancefloor with poles which can be fun if you're in the mood.
- 47 Heathcoat Street, Nottingham, NG1 3AG
New Foresters
-
Mixed gay bar slightly further from the centre of town, with pool tables and a covered and heated beer garden/smoking area. Open late Thursday-Sunday.
-
St Ann's Street; telephone (0115) 958 0432.
New Gatsby's
-
Formerly known as Niche, New Gatsby's is Nottingham's oldest gay venue. With a dance floor, pool tables and plenty of seating, it's worth a visit.
- 310 Huntingdon Street, Nottingham NG1 3LH
Broadway Cinema & Bar
-
While not strictly a gay venue, the Broadway hosts films from the yearly Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and the bars are most definitely gay friendly. It's also a not-for-profit charity, and definitely worth a visit.
